Happy Snowman Alpaca Farm is a family farm established in 2014, now located in central Maine. We are primarily focused on fiber production and agritourism. We are new members of Harvest Hosts offering overnight stays at the farm for small and medium-sized RVs. We have previously participated with our 4-H kids in various events and competitions, including farmers' markets, county fairs, and The Big E.
Farm visits are welcomed, with advance notice, if the farm store is not open. If the store is open, Self Guided Farm Tours (outside the paddocks) are free to visitors. Feeding Tours, where you can go into the paddocks with the alpacas/llamas for an up-close and personal experience, where you can feed them by hand, ask questions, and learn about the alpacas, llamas, and chickens we have in residence will be available by appointment for $10 per person ($5 for children under 12).
Our new farm store provides a variety of alpaca-made and alpaca-related products, including warm winter socks and accessories, blankets, alpaca and mixed-fiber yarns and rovings, stuffed toys when available, and other useful things. We carry Schacht Cricket looms, Ashford Spinning wheels, and Babe's Fiber Garden spinning wheels, and we can order anything needed from these companies as well. We also carry seasonal garden vegetables (cucumbers, tomatoes, garlic, fresh and dried bunching onions, fresh and dried kale, and pumpkins) when available. EGGS are available throughout the year and may be picked up outside the farm store at any time.
SHEARING DAY annually is in early June. The alpacas will go from fluffy-stuffies to skinny-minis all in one day. Starts early... Usually around 8:30 AM. Dates TBD in early Spring.
REGULAR WEEKEND STORE HOURS for NOVEMBER and DECEMBER 2023 are weekends from Noon to 5 PM. Otherwise, we are open by appointment.
Our fiber guild was started in January 2022, focusing mainly on fiber spinning. We'll be exploring fiber dying, weaving, carding, skirting, and other fun fiber events as we go along. Contact us if interested in participating. We meet the 2nd Sunday every month (with exceptions, please contact us in advance if you'd like to attend).
Fiber classes started with Learning to Spin in spring of 2022. Additional fiber classes in the future will include tapestry loom weaving, beginner rigid heddle weaving, and beginner peg loom weaving. We may add in a dying class and needle felting a gnome!
We are very excited to offer Alpaca Strolls! We have some nice (alpaca) boys who are more accustomed to being handled who will walk with you on paths around the farm. Reservations are preferred. These are weather dependent, so if it is raining or too hot, we will reschedule your reservation for a better time. These will be initially priced at $10 per person. Limit 5 alpacas out at a time. Children need to be accompanied by an adult.
